The Hamilton Speedway Drivers Club
was formed on September 12th, 1969, and became incorporated on July
24th, 1984, as the Hamilton Speedway Drivers Inc.
The club has owned and operated Western Speedway – Hamilton, since
1972 and the aim of the club is to provide motorsport entertainment
and excitement, as well as promoting the sport of speedway racing.
The Club Is a “not for profit” Association, and is controlled by a
Committee of Management, who are elected each year.
Western Speedway, is run completely by volunteers, under the
direction of the Committee of the HSDI, and hosts between 8 – 12
speedway meetings each year, attracting drivers from all around
Australia.
The racing season usually commences around early November, and runs
through until late April or May.
The Club is affiliated with ASCF/SSA, VSCF and VSC, while the Public
Liability is provided by the NASR Scheme through Marsh Pty Ltd. The
speedway is set on 17 acres of land, and has operated since 1972,
first as a daytime circuit, and then in 1977, lighting was purchased
and most meetings are now conducted in the evenings.
Car parking is available, but it is advisable to bring your own
chairs.
Racing is conducted under the ASCF, VSC and NASR Regulations.
Although the club has quite a few members who are also competitors,
the majority are people who are involved as either pitcrew,
officials or volunteers.
The race meetings attract between 60 – 120 competitors each meeting,
with the HSDI having hosted many Victorian Championships and Blue
Ribbon events including the Australian Ladies Saloon Championship in
1976, the Australian Modified Production Championship in 1993 and
the Australian Formula 500 Championship in 1996.
